Place marketing

Every place has a voice

Place marketing is not about adding a logo to a landscape. It means choosing what a territory wants to say, to whom, and in what form: identity, storytelling, experiences and media relations, held together by a single creative direction.

The method

How a place marketing plan is built

Five phases, always in the same order. Not a package of services, but a path: each phase produces material that makes the next one possible.

I

Listening to the place

Before communicating, understand. History, geography, economy, habits and the voices of those who live the place every day: this is where authentic narrative material comes from, not from a positioning built at a desk.

II

Positioning and identity

A place does not compete on price, but on meaning. I define the distinctive promise, the priority audiences — residents, visitors, investors, media — and the tone with which the place speaks about itself.

III

Storytelling and formats

The story becomes form: naming, copy, images, experiences, events, editorial content and tailor-made formats. Every format is born from the content, never from a replicated model.

IV

Relations and PR

A relationship plan with media, specialised press, institutions and cultural partners: visibility comes when the story is ready to be told by others.

V

Activation and continuity

Calendar, channel management, coordination of local actors and results review. Place marketing works over time: consistency matters more than a single campaign.

For whom

Destinations, brands and cultural projects

The scale changes, not the approach: the starting question is always which story the place can sustain over time.

Destinations and public bodies

Municipalities, unions of municipalities, DMOs, consortia and cultural institutions that need to make a territory recognisable and coordinate different voices into a single narrative.

Brands and local businesses

Companies, residences, hospitality structures and food-and-wine realities that want to turn their bond with the place into an identity advantage, not just a claim.

Cultural and real estate projects

Restorations, reopenings, new spaces and cultural formats that need a story before the inauguration, not after.

Destination promotion

Enhance without simplifying

The most fragile destination promotion promises everyone the same thing. I prefer a few recognisable directions: an identity that holds out of season, content that works even without a media budget, and formats — editorial, experiential, relational — built on the real character of the place. That is how visibility becomes value, not just traffic.
